The Story

RSI Polaris Overview

The Polaris is a corvette-class capital ship developed by Roberts Space Industries for the United Empire of Earth Navy, built to serve as both a naval patrol vessel and a civilian militia flagship. Designed for flexible operations, the Polaris can conduct search and rescue, strike missions, and security patrols while also functioning as a mobile command center. A single small fighter bay adds operational reach, and onboard refuel and repair capability supports extended deployments.

Torpedo Bays and Capital Ship Threat

Built to engage capital-class targets, the Polaris mounts four torpedo launch tubes. Each tube uses a rotary feeder holding seven Size 10 torpedoes, for a total payload of 28. The rotary feeders sit near the cargo hold to simplify reloading using stored torpedoes, supporting sustained strike capability across longer engagements.

Missile Systems and Supplemental Firepower

The Polaris carries two forward-facing missile racks, each capable of holding eight Size 3 missiles. A rear-facing remote turret adds additional missile pressure with capacity for twelve Size 2 missiles, giving the ship flexible response options for a range of threat types and engagement distances.

Turrets, Guns, and Point Defense Coverage

The Polaris brings a layered gun package built for broad coverage and strong deterrence. It includes a manned turret with dual bespoke ballistic Size 6 guns, plus four additional manned turrets. Two top-mounted turrets carry quad Size 4 guns, while the port and starboard turrets each mount quad Size 3 guns. A remote turret on the underside houses quad Size 3 guns for lower-arc coverage. Seven point defense cannons provide close-in protection, capable of intercepting incoming missiles and torpedoes, and contributing to defense against smaller fighters.

Hangar Bay and Operational Flexibility

A compact hangar bay is designed to comfortably house one light fighter for combat support, scouting, or utility operations. The bay can also be used for small vehicles depending on mission needs, adding flexibility for rescue, security, and forward operations.

Cargo Bay, Ordnance Handling, and Logistics

The Polaris includes a large hold with 576 SCU of cargo capacity, covering supplies and weapons ordnance. The layout provides easy access to the torpedo rotary feeders for faster reload cycles. An internal Size 2 tractor beam supports cargo handling, and two freight elevators provide direct access to the hangar for smoother logistics and staging.

Self-Sustaining Deployment and Crew Living

Built as a self-sufficient combat platform, the Polaris is intended for extended missions away from friendly ports. It provides better living conditions than many fleet alternatives, helping improve crew morale and long-term operational effectiveness during prolonged patrols and multi-day actions.

Medical Bay and Regeneration Support

A dedicated medical facility includes four Tier 2 beds and a monitoring station to support onboard treatment and recovery. As of Alpha 4.3.1, the Tier 2 capability enables regeneration up to 8,000 km away, improving survivability and mission continuity during high-risk operations.

Brig and Security Oversight

For security operations, the Polaris includes a brig with two holding cells and a specialized security station capable of monitoring detainees via closed-circuit television. This supports lawful interdiction, prisoner handling, and organized militia operations where custody and control matter.
